Perhaps this cold weather has you thinking about heated seats in your car. Or maybe you are a driving enthusiast who likes the Zoom Zoom fun of driving a Mazda. You might be a fan of the solid German engineering of a Volkswagon, or the smooth luxury driving of an Audi. Of course, the chance to drive a Porche is nothing to pass up, either! You can try them all out AND benefit our United Way in this week's Flow Auto Drive for Community test drive event.
Four of our board members came out to Darden Towe Park last Friday for a fun photo op with all four car brands. Many thanks to Jay Barton, Margo Szeliga, Abby Lunn and Juan Wade as well as the Flow Automotive staff members who helped make it happen.
For every test drive from Monday, November 10 through Saturday, November 15, Flow Auto will donate $15 to our United Way. And if driving fun and philanthropy aren't enough, with every test drive, your name will be entered to win a 12 month lease on a new vehicle. Have some fun and help us help local people at the same time.
We'd love to hear about the cars you drive. Let us know on social media using #DriveforUW this week. Photos are great, too!

Last week, we were privileged to be one of the local nonprofits chosen to participate in the Charlottesville Design Marathon. It is a wonderful opportunity to receive professional graphic design services pro bono. The creativity of working with a diverse team of volunteers, many of whom are meeting each other for the first time, makes for a very dynamic atmosphere.
We asked our team - Team United Way - to create a logo and invitation for a gala event we hope to hold in 2014. Team members Krista Ulrich, Andrew Stronge and Peggy Brennan soon began sketching out design concepts. It was a new experience just checking in with our team 3 times during the day, but it also felt like opening a wonderful gift on Christmas at the end of the day.
There were many teams working on a diverse array of projects for about a dozen local nonprofits at CitySpace that day, and there were lots of smiles from the receiving nonprofits as they saw their amazing designs unfold. What a gift!
The design will be shared by the Design Marathon folks in a couple of weeks, and our team members have graciously offered to continue to work with us on refining it since our event is so far in the future.
Thank you, Team United Way and the Charlottesville Design Marathon. We are so lucky to be a part of this giving community.
